چکیده

Mazus japonicus is an important plant of Scrophulariaceae family. In the present research work, the dichloromethane and methanol crude extracts of the plant Mazus japonicus were evaluated for phytotoxic, cytotoxic, antifungal and antibacterial activities. Both dichloromethane and methanol extracts of Mazus japonicus inhibited the growth of Lemna minor L. and showed significant phytotoxic activities. The dichloromethane extract showed cytotoxic activity at highest level of dose with LD50 513.04 μg/ml, while methanol extract showed no cytotoxic activity. The dichloromethane extract of the plant showed 25% inhibition against Fusarium solani and methanol extract of the plant showed 30% inhibition against Microsporum canis. Both dichloromethane and methanol extract of the plant exhibited non-significant activity when tested against pathogenic gram positive and gram negative bacterial strains. The phytochemical tests indicated the presence of saponins in the plant.

Effects of Mulching Tolerant Plant Straw on Soil Surface on Growth and Cadmium Accumulation of Galinsoga parviflora

Pot and field experiments were conducted to study the effects of mulching with straw of cadmium (Cd) tolerant plants (Ranunculus sieboldii, Mazus japonicus, Clinopodium confine and Plantago asiatica) on growth and Cd accumulation of Galinsoga parviflora in Cd-contaminated soil. In the pot experiment, mulching with M. japonicus straw increased the root biomass, stem biomass, leaf biomass, shoot ...

Kickxia iranica, a new species from Iran

A new species from Iran is described and illustrated here as Kickxia iranica (Plantaginaceae). Kickxia iranica is morphologically similar to K. commutata, a species native to Mediterranean region, however it can be distinguished from the latter by leaf shape, color of corolla, habit, stem branching and length of leaf, petiole, pedicel and corolla. Notes on its distribution, ecology and phenolog...

Modulation of flower colour by rationally designed dominant-negative chalcone synthase.

The intensity of flower colour, mainly determined by the amount of anthocyanin, is an important horticultural trait. To modulate flower colour intensity, post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS)-based technology has been widely used. The constraint of PTGS, however, is that it requires a high degree of conservation in the nucleotide sequences of the target and the silencer. Further, it is dif...
